Weather resistance does not mean every weather condition is ideal
Robot mowers are outdoor machines and many are designed to tolerate rain, but “can operate in rain” is not the same as “should mow every wet lawn whenever possible.” The mower, the turf and the terrain all respond to moisture. A useful weather decision considers water resistance, traction, soil condition, grass length and the likelihood of rutting or clogging rather than treating an IP code as permission for unrestricted operation.

Wet grass changes traction before it changes electronics

A mower that is comfortably inside its maximum slope rating when dry may slide, spin or widen its turns when the same section is wet. AWD, tracks, tyre design and weight distribution can help, but no drive system makes saturated soil behave like dry turf.
If the yard contains one critical slope, judge weather policy around that section rather than the average lawn. Parking the mower during heavy rain can be sensible even when the electronics are fully weather-resistant because the objective is reliable mowing without turf damage.
Soft ground can be a bigger problem than rainfall
Rain intensity is only part of the equation. Soil drainage determines how long the lawn remains vulnerable. Low areas, newly seeded sections and repeated travel routes near the dock can become soft even after rain stops. Robot mowers cross some locations repeatedly, so a muddy docking approach can deteriorate faster than an open mowing area.
Watch for wheel marks, soil displacement and repeated slipping. If one route is becoming damaged, adjust the schedule, improve drainage or change the route if the system allows it. Autonomous operation should reduce lawn work, not create a maintenance track.
Wet clippings can increase cleaning needs
Robot mowers cut small amounts frequently, which is different from processing a week of long grass. Even so, wet material can adhere to the underside, wheels and blade area. Buildup adds resistance and can reduce cutting efficiency. Regular inspection becomes more important during periods of rapid spring growth and wet weather.

Long wet grass is the difficult combination
A continuous-mowing system works best when grass length is controlled. A rain sensor does not make a mower more waterproof; it changes how the product reacts. Likewise, a forecast-based routine can park a mower because the owner prefers to protect lawn condition, even when the mower itself could continue. These features are best thought of as automation of an ownership policy.

When using the Finder, treat slope capability as a dry-condition screening value and leave margin where wet operation is common. If the property regularly becomes slippery, AWD or stronger traction may be worth more than additional acreage capacity.
Temperature and seasonal conditions also matter
Weather is not only rain. Very cold conditions, frost, extreme heat and winter storage can affect turf and battery management. Follow the manufacturer’s operating-temperature and storage guidance. Do not assume that an enclosure designed for rain means the battery should be charged or stored outdoors through freezing conditions.
Seasonal schedule changes are normal. In spring, growth can demand more mowing and more blade inspection. In hot or dry periods, the lawn may need less cutting and a higher height. The robot should follow the lawn’s needs rather than a fixed calendar copied from another property.

When weather should influence the purchase, not just the schedule
If a property is routinely wet, shaded or steep, weather behaviour becomes a selection criterion. Look for traction margin, useful weather controls and a cleaning procedure the owner is comfortable with. A flat, fast-draining lawn may not justify paying extra for those features, while a sloped clay yard can make them important. The right comparison is therefore not which mower has the most weather icons, but which one reduces intervention in the conditions the property actually experiences.
Also consider the charging-station area. If runoff collects around the dock, the mower may repeatedly drive through the wettest part of the lawn even after the rest has dried. Small landscaping or drainage improvements around this high-traffic area can matter more than changing the global rain setting.
